In the Marketplace Gallery stands in Yaroslav’s court, on the premises of the old Market Place, an 18th-century historic and cultural monument. The Gallery has displayed Russian and international art for residents of Novgorod and visitors for more than 15 years. During these years, the gallery has created a special ambience of an exhibition space most conducive to small-scale expositions and has attracted a wide circle of contemporary artists, art viewers, and collectors.
“Our practice,” the Gallery’s Art Director Elena Zhirova explains, “has become a natural reflection of the current ideas of what exhibition process involves, and we are clearly relevant in the contemporary artistic context. The Gallery’s policy provides for organizing quality exhibitions whivh could attract as many viewers and experts as possible.
